The Takeaway–Penn State–Michigan

**Sorry for the late  posting, THON, Homework, and Homework got in the way**

Sometimes it is better to peak too late than to not peak at all. That at least gives normal folk hope that next year in fact will be better than this year. Penn State went into the game with a world of confidence after taking apart Northwestern for their first Big Ten win of the season. The Lions looked like a totally different team scoring 32 points in the paint against the Wildcats and looked to maintain a similar inside presence against Michigan.

Penn State stuck to their plan scoring 34 points in the paint and continued to show why they are the #1 team in the country in defensive rebounding, fighting for 33 rebounds. Perhaps one of the better things the Lions showed in the game was their ability to fight back from being in a hole. A few times during the game they were down by a decent margin and were able to fight back to gain a lead. That being said, they also gave up leads during a few all too characteristic scoring droughts.

I do not know what is going on here…

Talor Battle has seem to have found his place on this team, while this might seem a little surprising to hear, Penn State has played a million times better when he is distributing the ball, playing off of screens, and not feeling like he has to force a shot. In the post game interview he talked about trusting his teammates, the more Talor trusts the guys around him the better. It seems that he has reached that point. Although Talor shouldn’t limit his production, he might not need to score 30 points every game to keep the Lions in it…I hope.

Defensively the Lions did a pretty good job finally defending the three, Michigan jacked up 28 of them but only hit 6. For whatever reason they never tried to really pound the ball inside when the three wasn’t falling, but hey, I’m not complaining. Maybe the nicest surprise of the game was how well Tim Frazier played, he worked well with the ball, limited his turnovers, and showed good court vision with some nice passes. When the Frazier-Battle combo is clicking, it looks really good.

Now on to OSU…
