Huge basketball weekend ahead

In a week full of excitement for the always heated contest between the Buckeyes and the Lions there is reason to be excited about the basketball program. Besides the exhibition game against Slippery Rock there will be many high-profile recruits in town to check out the basketball program. Their visit is flying a little bit under the radar in what could be the biggest weekend in the growing programs history. It’s safe to say that landing any of these recruits could go along way to become a two sport school in the eyes of the national media. Here is a list of the visitors you can expect to see court side this friday:

Bold indicates already committed to Penn State. All players followed by position and positional ranking.

CLASS OF 2010

• Taran Buie SG #24

CLASS OF 2011

• Trey Burke    PG #23

• Rakeem Christmas C #1/#4 (national class ranking)

• Malcolm Gilbert C #10

• Desmond Hubert C #2

CLASS OF 2012

• Savon Goodman (not yet ranked)

• Amile Jefferson (not yet ranked)

Something worth noting is that Malcolm Gilbert,Rakeem Christmas, and Savon Goodman all go to the same High School and play for the same team already.Gilbert shows interest in more academic based schools. Delaware, Rutgers, GT, and now us. If he feels that he blends well here and can get the education he wants he might find Penn State to be pretty much what he is looking for. After he folds, then that puts pressure on Christmas to make up his mind. Similar to King and Williams with football. I’m not saying this will happen, but I think the combination of Gilberts focus on his schooling as well as basketball could help us grab Christmas as well as maybe push somebody like Hubert our way as well.
