Penn State–Indiana Preview
I got this..
Sometime not too far down the road Penn State is going to win in the Big Ten. The team has too many players with solid basketball talent to not get the job done. Indiana is in a similar building year as the Lions are so it isn’t going to be easy. Then again, if you thought it was going to be easy you either haven’t been paying attention at all this season, or you’re crazy. Indiana just coming off a OT win against Minnesota and will be looking to build off of that success.
While recently the general atmosphere around the program has been pretty hard on the fellas, they are doing a lot of things right. Plenty, well most Penn State teams would lose games by 15+ points never really having a chance to win. This team plays with fight, doesn’t give up, and has held its own against every team it has played. In the end I would rather have the problem of having to figure out how to get over the hump, not having to figure out how to even get into the game. The Lions have had quality chances to every Big Ten games they’ve been in, and while the scoring isn’t consistent, it is there enough to still give them a chance to win.
With all of that in mind Indiana is a do or die game. A win gets the team confidence and is a step in the right direction. At this point the Big Ten standings are the least of the teams worries so we won’t even address that issue. A loss will be punishing to the teams mental side and could make it harder and harder for them to get the pieces together.
Nittany Nation will be back in full force. It remains to be seen how much the 0-5 record will dampen the spirits of the less than die-hard fan, but as of now we’re looking at a student crowd around the 1000 mark. All things considered that isn’t too bad. The sideline holds around 750 so the ESPN2 crowd should have a good look at the students.
I would expect the line up to be the same as the past two games, Ott has been solid starting over Drew and even though he magically disappears to the bench in the second half he has started out well. Indiana isn’t a very large bodied team so anything that can get started on the inside will be key. The Lions have relied on their jump shot a little too much as of late so taking the pressure off could be a big help.
Defensivly, besides contesting outside shots you can’t really find..much..to take issue with. Indiana isn’t going to try and fool anybody with their offense, so keep doing what has worked and stick to your guns, trust your teammates, and know that you can do it. It is all it takes to win. Lets Go State..
